Gallery Grand Opening

CreationOvation Art Center’s space has gone from a dreary abandoned retail place to a bright, colorful, and inspirational 2500 square feet of eye porn. Beachy retro 3-D art to giant heavy oil paintings creating awareness of our human condition. What’s the concept? Well-crafted, thoughtful, beautiful, diverse art in a non-pretentious atmosphere—no concept.

It looks like a tornado lifted up a chunk of North Hollywood’s art scene and dumped it smack into the middle of a bedroom community in Rolling Hills Estates. To make it even more ironic, the gallery art center sits between two anchor stores for women’s clothing and an ice skating rink? Standing guard is a heavy metal Fantasy Chair and a bloodshot one-eyed Zap robot. In the back are some large abstract paintings by a master painter and on the side alcoves is a collection of digital paintings. It all fits without concept.

The eclectic music is softened by some mid-century modern furniture but still vibrates a bit from the bare stained cement floors. But you won’t see hipsters here drowning out their fake sorrows. No need to analyze what art is and where it should be and who it should belong to. Everyone and every place needs art. No need for a concept.

“It would be impossible to imagine the existence of man without art in some form or another…” —Buehler
